The Joy of Collecting: The Strishock Print Collection

Zoellner, Richard

Richard Zoellner (1908-2003) was a painter and printmaker best known for his New Deal murals. He was born in Portsmith, Ohio, and graduated from the Cincinnati Art Academy before studying in New York and Mexico. He opened his studio in Cincinnati in 1933, and completed a number of commissions for the New Deal, including post office, hospital, and zoo murals. He established the fine arts printmaking department for the University of Alabama in 1945, and served for 33 years on the faculty.
