Stories of Women Religious

Their Stories

Page from pamphlet containing images of Sister Marie Lataste and Sister Josepha MenendezThis pamphlet features three narratives of Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Heart. The first, Marie Lataste, was born in Mimbaste, France, in 1822. After experiencing visions of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and angels, she joined the Society of the Sacred Heart as a lay sister, before passing away from sickness in May, 1847, at the age of twenty-five years old. The second narrative describes the life of Sister Josefa Menendez, a mystic herself, whose visions were compiled in The Way of Divine Love. Born in Madrid, Spain, in 1890, Sister Josepha Menendez entered a French convent of the Society of the Sacred Heart at age 29, just four years before her death. The third narrative, of Sister Rose Coyne, tells of the miraculous healing of her tuberculosis through the intercession of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat.
