"These pieces were created as a reflection of the Punk Rock movement in the 1970s where the music genre represented more than just a sound. It echoes a belief of rebelliousness and freedom of expression. To me, the pieces are about liking what you like, being yourself, and acceptance of who you are. Punk rock I and Punk rock II were created on the potter’s wheel. Each piece is made up of two large platters put together to form the head, one cylindrical base as the neck, and several cones to make the spiked hair. A hand formed chin and mouth were added to suggest facial features. The sculptures have no eyes. They were fired in a reduction atmosphere with a yellow salt glaze and wood ash sprinkled on top to create the vertical glaze drips."
