Anyone who has ever visited CUA’s campus would recognize its beauty, but even the best-looking campuses spruce up when company’s coming. To provide the best welcoming image for the imminent papal visit, Carl Petchik, Executive Director of Facilities Operations, and Kevin M. Peterson, Director of Facilities, Maintenance, and Operations, assigned members of their crew to several key projects. These projects included digging and planting or erecting new signage, reconfiguring parking areas, undertaking major cleaning projects, installing new carpet, and painting. While the facilities department was responsible for campus improvements prior to the papal visit, they also managed numerous tasks associated with the visit, everything from meal delivery and dumpster removal, to the extensive clean-up after the thousands of faithful visitors departed.
