In our era with the prevalence of large format art, it's easy to forget that the miniature in sculpture and painting has a long history in art. Higgins became a member of The Miniature Painters, Sculptors, and Gravers Society of Washington DC and produced sculptures annually to exhibit in their Annual International Exhibit of Fine Art in Miniature held at The Mansion at Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland. This facet of her body of work blended her interest in the secular and sacred. The constraints of the form resulted in intimate terra cotta and sandstone sculptures that often resembled Japanese Netsuke.
This side of the case displays Madonna and Child miniatures with two small format relief Madonna and Child pieces that showcase her ability to simplify form in the modernist style.
