To Agreeably Disagree: Two Catholic Voices in Modern American Public Life

Letter: Higgins to Neuhaus, 6/17/1977

Title: George Higgins to Richard Neuhaus

Description: DESCRIPTION OF IMAGE

Contributor: AUTHOR/CONTRIBUTOR

Date: DATE

This is the first letter Higgins-Neuhaus of correspondence in our records.  Higgins writes to tell Neuhaus that he enjoyed his book, Christian Faith and Public Policy, but also to take issue with a point Neuhaus makes about organized labor.  Both the cordiality and the disagreement are in evidence.

Consider the following:

1.  How does Higgins address Neuhaus?  What does this suggest about their relationship?

2.  Which "specific conclusion" is Higgins taking issue with?

3.  What does he propose they do in order to resolve the matter?
