The Catholic Church, the Congress of Industrial Organizations, and Labor in the United States, 1930-1950

"The Church and Labor"; Samuel Cardinal Stritch to William J. Finn

Title: Samuel Cardinal Stritch

Description: Samuel Cardinal Stritch, left, speaks with Edward Cardinal Mooney, center, and Francis Cardinal Spellman

Contributor: Harris and Ewing, photographer, Harris and Ewing Collection, Photographs and Prints Division, Library of Congress

Date: n.d.

Father Klemens Jagodzinski (1913-1973) was a young assistant at Transfiguration in 1942. He served his God and his parishoners in obscurity for his whole life, except  for this hostile reaction to his pro-labor sentiments that brought him to Samuel Cardinal Stritch's attention. Just recently ordained in 1939, Jagodzinski must have picked up on the Church's social teaching at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary or in a priest's study club.
