Overview of the Drama and Theatre Collection
The reference material for Drama and Theatre can be found in the Reference Room on
the 1st floor of Mullen Library (non-circulating). Circulating material can be found in the
Mullen Library stacks. Current issues of print journals can be found on the 2nd floor in
the Main Reading Room. The full text of many journals is available online at the above
page under ‘CU's e-Journals.’ Floor map of Mullen Library; Map of Mullen Stacks.
In general, most of the material can be found in the following call number range:
PN 1530 - the monologue
PN 1551 - the dialogue
PN 1560-1590 - the dialogue
PN 1600-1988 - Drama history in general; composition of plays
PN 1990-3307 - Dramatic presentation; acting, stagecraft, cinema, etc.
PN 6110.5-6120 - General collections of plays
If you are looking for a particular playwright, the language of the texts of the writer will
determine where his/her work is located. For example, Shakespeare falls under PR for
English Literature.
For a detailed breakdown of each call number range, go to the Library of Congress classification outline.
Your best bet: check the WRLC catalog for monographs and journals that could be applicable to your topic. Check the CU’s e-journals for full text journal articles online.
